October in Montreal – A Season of Romance, Colour and Celebration

October in Montreal is warm, golden, and the colours are pure electric. It is also my birth month, and one of the busiest periods for guests travelling to the city. Like September, October welcomes cruise travellers, corporate meetings, business conferences, and those seeking a private romantic escape or a last taste of autumn.

Canadian Thanksgiving marks the highlight of the month. It is the busiest weekend of the season as Canadians travel to spend time in the city. Thanksgiving here is tied to the harvest: closing summer cottages, tidying gardens, and gathering together with family.

With the effects of global warming, autumn lasts longer. Today, the leaves often reach their peak around Thanksgiving rather than late September. The weather remains warm into November, and I often find myself still dining in my garden outdoors in December. For photographers and romantics, October is paradise—filled with breathtaking light, fiery trees, and the charm of crisp autumn evenings.

Culinary Highlights – My Restaurant Picks for October

Montreal’s dining scene is one of the city’s greatest luxuries. Talented chefs transform local produce into exquisite culinary journeys. Here are my top recommendations for October, all of which I return to often:

  • Damas – A refined Syrian restaurant offering vibrant, flavourful dishes in a warm setting.
  • Kaza Maza – Homestyle regional Syrian cuisine, intimate and comforting.
  • Milos – An elegant institution for Mediterranean fine dining with the freshest seafood.
  • Le Pois Penché – A lively Parisian-style brasserie, perfect for romantic dinners.
  • Toqué! – Montreal’s most celebrated fine-dining experience, where local ingredients meet world-class creativity.
  • Europea – Innovative French gastronomy in a sophisticated setting.
  • Jatoba – Trendy fusion of Asian-inspired cuisine, ideal for stylish evenings.
  • Le Serpent – Contemporary Italian in a chic, industrial space, perfect for couples.
  • Mile End – Home stayle Portuguese specialities known for the Piri Piri sauce and natas

October – A Time to Indulge

As October is my birth month, it is also a time for me to indulge and rejuvenate after a long season. I take time for spa treatments, hikes in nature to admire the foliage, long bike rides, steam rooms, facials, dining out with friends and family, BBQs with produce from my market and garden, and of course, bubbles on a rooftop.

By the end of October, the city transforms—time for beautiful jackets, cosy sweaters, and elegant autumn boots. Montreal becomes the perfect backdrop for romance, relaxation, and discovery.

On 14 October 2026, the Montréal Métro celebrates its 60th birthday. Since it officially opened in 1966, it has carried generations of Montrealers to school, university, work, concerts, hockey games, festivals, family gatherings and countless everyday destinations. For me, it has always been much more than public transport. It is a passionate relationship only those  close to me are well aware of.
