July in Montreal: Jazz, Joy & Journeys with Me

Step-On Guide - Ruby Roy - 3

By Ruby Roy | rubyroy.ca

I absolutely adore July in Montreal. There’s a rhythm to the city that’s impossible to resist—an intoxicating blend of music, festivals, long golden evenings, and the irresistible scent of something delicious wafting from a terrace. It’s the time of year when Montreal wears her heart on her sleeve, and I’d be delighted to show you her most beautiful summer secrets.

Whether you’re travelling as a couple, planning a stylish girls’ weekend, or simply want to experience Montreal at a higher level of sophistication, I craft private, tailored tours that are indulgent, cultural, and unforgettable, while I work in my garden, tapping my feet to the summer songs.

Discovering Montreal in July, your Way

One of my favourite ways to explore is on foot. My Neighbourhood walking tours are relaxed and designed entirely around your pace and interests with stops for something cool and delightful on the closed streets for pedestrians only.

For something a bit more spirited, I offer Private biking tours along Montreal’s historical Lachine Canal, the Formula One Grand Prix race track with a stop at the Atwater market for cheeses and very local flavours. We are North Americas most bike friendly city with thousands of km of bike paths

For those with a sweet tooth, don’t miss my delightful Ice Cream Tour. Yes, it’s exactly as decadent as it sounds. I’ll take you to the city’s finest artisan ice cream makers sampling flavours that range from granita, maple, salted butter and more . It’s a joyful, flavour-filled experience that feels like a summer holiday in every scoop.

Evenings That Sparkle

As the sun sets, Old Montreal transforms into a place of pure magic. My evening walking tours takes you through romantic, historical Old Montreal.

One of the highlights is Cité Mémoire, an extraordinary series of large-scale video projections that bring Montreal’s history to life on the walls of its oldest buildings. End up for a roof top drink?.

Summer Festivals in Full Bloom

July in Montreal is truly a festival for the senses. I always recommend pairing your private tour with one of the city’s events: There are so many more.

  • The Montreal International Jazz Festival is a must—whether you love smooth saxophones or big-band swing, the energy is irresistible.
  • Just for Laughs, the world’s largest comedy festival, turns the city into a playground of laughter and brilliant performers.
  • The Montréal Complètement Cirque transforms streets into circus arenas—imagine dancers flying above you on silks, mid-air, against a city skyline.
  • The International Fireworks Festival is simply breathtaking. Fireworks Festival, is widely considered the largest fireworks competition in the world.
  •
  • Experience Montreal My Way I, indulgent  with  me . Whether we’re cycling through a sun-dappled park, wandering cobblestone streets at twilight, or sharing a scoop of the city’s best affogato or café cream, it’s all about discovering joy in the details.

My Personal Story with the Montréal Métro

On 14 October 2026, the Montréal Métro celebrates its 60th birthday. Since it officially opened in 1966, it has carried generations of Montrealers to school, university, work, concerts, hockey games, festivals, family gatherings and countless everyday destinations. For me, it has always been much more than public transport. It is a passionate relationship only those  close to me are well aware of.

Things to Do in Montréal in August 2026. Discover Montréal with Ruby Roy.

Warm summer days, lively neighbourhoods, world class festivals, outstanding food, outdoor music and beautiful public spaces make August one of the finest times to experience Canada’s most vibrant city. Whether you are visiting for the first time or returning to discover something new, August offers endless opportunities to experience the very best of Montréal.
